SPORTS: Djokovic Wins World Tennis Championship Title

Novak Djokovic started where he stopped last season: by continuing his unbeaten run.
In Abu Dhabi today, he defeated Spain’s David Ferrer 7-5, 6-2 to win his third straight World Tennis Championship title.

Djokovic, who finished the year with a 24-match winning streak on the ATP tour since losing the U.S. Open final to Rafael Nadal, needed just 82 minutes to dispatch the third-ranked Ferrer in the final of the invitational exhibition tournament.

Djokovic converted his third match point to take home the $250,000 winner’s check.
Ferrer led 4-2 in the first set but then started making a number of unforced errors as Djokovic took control of the match.
Earlier, the top-ranked Nadal won a third-place playoff match against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-6 (5), 6-3.

Comedienne Princess Dammy & Husband Split After 7 Months Of Marriage

Popular Comedienne Princess Dammy has ended her marriage with movie producer Adeshola Jeremiah just after seven months of contracting it.

We learnt that the pair who got married in a Lagos registry on May 8th, 2013, started having problems two months after hence the reason for the separation.

SPORTS: Negredo Sends City past Liverpool

Alvaro Negredo's ninth goal in nine home games saw Manchester City continue their peerless home form as they beat Liverpool 2-1 in a gripping English Premier League encounter on Thursday.

Vincent Kompany and Negredo were City's goalscorers as they responded to Philippe Coutinho's opener to maintain the division's only perfect home record and move their team, ominously, into second place in the table.

Liverpool, meanwhile, fell from first place to fourth, but they trail new leaders Arsenal by only three points. Having weathered a characteristically strong start to the game from the hosts, Liverpool stunned Manuel Pellegrini's men by taking the lead after 24 minutes.

Moments earlier, Luis Suarez had played Raheem Sterling clean through on goal, only for the winger to be judged offside. But eventually the opening goal arrived, thanks to a clever touch from Suarez, who steered Jordan Henderson's pass forward for Sterling.

The young winger rounded goalkeeper Joe Hart before Coutinho took over and calmly planted the ball into the open goal. This was a true test of City's title intentions and their invincibility at home, where they had collected every available league point to date this season and, sure enough, within seven minutes, they were level.

Kompany was the source, the big defender rising powerfully to meet a David Silva corner with a precise headed finish that covering Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen could only help into his own net.

Liverpool continued to impress - far more than fellow title hopefuls Arsenal or Manchester United, who had been brutally swept aside by City at the Etihad Stadium - but on the stroke of half-time, City went in front.

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet was at fault, misjudging Negredo's mis-timed shot after the City forward got on the end of a slick counter-attack involving Samir Nasri and Jesus Navas.

It was the culmination of a thrilling first half, which opened with Navas almost heading City into the lead after just five minutes, meeting Aleksandar Kolarov's left-wing cross with a superb effort that scraped the upright.

But Liverpool, and Suarez in particular, are playing with the confidence and verve of a team that even their cautious manager Brendan Rodgers now admits may have a chance of winning the title in 2014. In the 13th minute, Suarez came close to adding to his recent avalanche of goals when he headed down and just wide from Coutinho's corner.

Before the interval, Liverpool strung together the move of the match involving Sterling and Suarez, who set up Coutinho for a shot that drew a brilliant stop from Hart. Liverpool opened the second half in similarly ambitious mode as Suarez laid the ball off for Henderson to poke a shot just over from the edge of the penalty area.

And the Uruguay international then showed superb close control to collect Aly Cissokho's lofted through ball and elude his marker before testing Hart at his near post. Liverpool came close to levelling in a 50th-minute scramble when Hart repelled Sterling's lofted pass with his leg as Henderson almost connected.

Kolarov gifted the rebound to Suarez, who appeared to have turned it into the open net, only for the ball to hit Henderson, who was offside. Thereafter, an entertaining game did not disappoint. Negredo, with a chip and a header, tested Mignolet, while Henderson worked Hart at the other end with an audacious back-heel.

Suarez sped down the left after 72 minutes and delivered a perfect centre for Sterling, but his team mate's shot from inside the six-yard box cleared the bar by some distance.

In yesterday’s much-anticipated interview with Oprah, Beyoncé finally admitted she was a member of the New World Order, also known as the Illuminati.

Oprah’s surprised reaction following this statement has been deemed inauthentic by fans. As godmother to Blue Ivy, she would have presumably been present at both the conception ritual and birth ceremony.

The pinnacle of the interview was when Oprah solemnly asked if the Illuminati was behind the death of Whitney Houston. “Yes, that was us. I was there for that. But at the time I felt, in my heart, that that was what she would have wanted,” said Beyoncé.

“She had a good run.”

When it came time to discuss husband Jay-Z’s possible ties to the Illuminati, Beyoncé said, “That’s something I’d like to keep private. I don’t like to air my family affairs out in the open.”

“You’re keeping something for yourself?” replied Oprah. “Yes, exactly.”

Asked if she’d do anything differently looking back, Beyoncé says, “I can’t say so for sure. I’m a different person now. I became the queen that I am through this process and I’ve learned a lot from my mistakes.” Oprah recanted, “I’ve had some of my greatest revelations through my biggest failures.” The two then smiled at each other knowingly.

The interview delved only briefly into current Illuminati plans. Oprah asked, “Do you think the Illuminati will succeed in destroying world governments and world economies?” Beyoncé smiled coyly, “We’ll just have to wait and find out.”

At the end of the interview, Oprah held Beyoncé’s hand in hers and whispered, “Thank you for being so brave.” Then the two embraced and turned to a cheering audience while flashing the devil’s sign and smiling.

I Suffered Depression In Chime’s Hands – Clara Chime

The estranged wife of Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State, Mrs Clara Chime, yesterday opened up on her widely publicized alleged ‘mental illness’ and recounted her ordeal in confinement at the Government House, Enugu.

Mrs. Chime, who spoke in an exclusive interview with Channels Television, said she “suffered from depression” as a result of her ordeal in the hands of Gov. Chime.

But she denied having any mental issues.

It would be recalled that at an interactive session with journalists in Enugu last month, Gov. Chime had denied the claim made by a Human Rights activist and lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), on behalf of Mrs. Chime, that she was being held against her will and kept incommunicado from the outside world.

Gov. Chime then said his wife “has some medical challenges and it would be very unkind of me to talk about her condition on the pages of newspapers”.

He added: “We’ve been battling her health challenges prior to my inauguration in 2011. It was so bad at a time that she had to be taken out of the Governor’s Lodge for treatment”, but he denied ever imprisoning her.

Mrs. Chime, who was eventually ejected from the Government House, Enugu, following the negative publicity that trailed her ordeal, said she is “now liberated” and thanked Nigerians for their support while her ordeal lasted.

She said: “He (Gov.Chime) accused me of so many things, like he told the whole world that I had mental problem; he told people that my friends are into diabolical stuff.

“I don’t know where he got that from. That is why I don’t know what to say about my husband.

“All I can tell him is that I wish him all the best in this life and the life to come because he is the father of my son.”

She said she was happy to regain her freedom.

“I’m just happy. I just couldn’t believe that one day I would be myself or be happy this way.

“I’ve gained a lot of weight. I’m going to get back to my normal size. It’s the drug that they gave me that caused this. The doctor in the UK told me that it was wrong medication because that is not what I’m suffering from.

“I’m suffering from reactive depression. If your husband is not there for you, nobody is there for you, my dear you will break down”, she said.

SPORTS: Tottenham Sacks Manager Andre Villas-Boas

Tottenham have sacked manager Andre Villas-Boas in the wake of Sunday’s 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool.

The defeat was the club’s worst at White Hart Lane in 16 years and left Spurs seventh in the Premier League – eight points behind leaders Arsenal.

Villas-Boas, 36, took over at Tottenham in July 2012.

“The club can announce that agreement has been reached with head coach Andre Villas-Boas for the termination of his services,” said a Spurs statement.

“The decision was by mutual consent and in the interests of all parties.”

Villas-Boas had come under increasing pressure in recent weeks as his side struggled to keep pace with the top four in the league.

His side lost 6-0 to Manchester City on 24 November and, despite a draw against Manchester United and wins at Fulham and Sunderland, the defeat by Liverpool proved the final straw for the Spurs hierarchy.

“We wish Andre well for the future,” added the Spurs statement. “We shall make a further announcement in due course.”

The early names being linked with replacing the Portuguese include current Russia boss and former England manager Fabio Capello, ex-Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo, Swansea boss Michael Laudrup and Tottenham’s current technical director Franco Baldini.

SPORTS: United Stop Skid, Liverpool Crush Spurs

Manchester United and Liverpool each enjoyed breezy victories in the English Premier League on Sunday, United sinking Aston Villa 3-0 and Liverpool returning to second place by outclassing Tottenham Hotspur 5-0.

Beaten by Everton and Newcastle United in their previous two league outings, United were at risk of losing three successive games for the first time since 2001, but they were dominant in a 3-0 win at Villa Park.

A quick-fire brace from Danny Welbeck put United in control after only 18 minutes and they added a further goal through Tom Cleverley as they closed to within ten points of leaders Arsenal.

Victory left the champions seven points below the UEFA Champions League positions in eighth place, but it was a timely win for manager David Moyes after a desperate run of four games without victory.

Marc Albrighton worked United goalkeeper David de Gea twice in the early stages, but a pair of goals from Welbeck put United in command.

Deputising for the injured Robin van Persie, the England forward broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when he slammed home after Adnan Januzaj had headed against the post from a Rafael da Silva cross.

Villa were unable to contain United's right-sided players and three minutes later the visitors scored another goal from that flank, with Antonio Valencia crossing for the sliding Welbeck to score.

Wayne Rooney, playing in his 500th club game, and Welbeck both went close to extending United's lead before Cleverley added a third in the 52nd minute with a first-time finish from Rooney's pass.

It was the England midfielder's first goal for a year and United were able to celebrate another milestone later in the game when Darren Fletcher came on to make his first appearance after a year out with a chronic illness.

Villa, who have not beaten United at home since 1995, remain 11th in the table.

Having seen Manchester City, Chelsea and Everton steal in front of them on Saturday, Liverpool returned to second place with a very impressive success over ten-man Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

Captain for the day in the absence of Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez put Liverpool ahead in the 18th minute when he took the ball past Michael Dawson and Kyle Walker before curling home a low shot.

Philippe Coutinho hit the bar, Glen Johnson shot just over and Hugo Lloris blocked from Suarez before Jordan Henderson doubled the visitors' lead in the 40th minute.

Lloris stood up to save from Henderson and then blocked Suarez's follow-up, but he was beaten at the third attempt as the former Sunderland midfielder crashed a volley into the bottom-right corner.

Spurs' hopes of a comeback were effectively ended when Paulinho was sent off in the 63rd minute for catching Suarez in the chest with his foot.

Full-back Jon Flanagan made it 3-0, slamming a difficult half-volley off the bar and into the net from Suarez's cross, and Suarez added a fourth with a delicate lob before teeing up Raheem Sterling for the fifth.

Liverpool finished the weekend two points behind leaders Arsenal and above third-place Chelsea on goal difference, with Spurs five points below the Champions League places after a first defeat in four league games.

In the day's other fixture, Swansea City drew 1-1 at Norwich City in a match overshadowed by an injury to visiting goalscorer Nathan Dyer.

He broke the deadlock with a 12th-minute lob but had to be stretchered off and taken to hospital with a suspected fractured ankle after injuring himself in a duel with Sebastien Bassong. Gary Hooper earned Norwich a share of the spoils in first-half stoppage time, finding the net from 25 yards with a sumptuous, dipping volley.

NEWS: Madiba Heads To His Final Resting Place

The State funeral service of former President Nelson Mandela has ended in the specially erected marquee on his family home in Qunu in the Eastern Cape. Madiba coffin will now be taken to his final resting place.

The world is not expected to witness former president Nelson Mandela's coffin being lowered into his grave at his rural home in Qunu in the Eastern Cape.

The Defence Force will sound the Last Post and the Reveille and then wuthdraw.

Mandela's actual burial will be a private affair. Only up to 450 mourners, including members of the Mandela house, Madiba clan, Thembu kingdom, close friends and select dignitaries will be allowed at his grave site, where his parents and children have been reburied.

It is unclear who will conduct the Thembu burial ceremony, including certain rituals.

In his sermon, Bishop Ziphozihle Siwa says we should take up a life of selflessness as Madiba did in his speech at the official state funeral.

"We will always cherish the life you shared with this nation," he adds.

"Thank you for the trust you have placed in me. The responsibility was tremendous. It was an honour to serve you Tata. I bid you farewell," says Mandela family friend, Bantu Holomisa.

He says that the Madiba song may have ended but its melody lingers on and we must make sure it never ends.

He has thanked Mandela's medical team for looking after him and for all the support that has been bestowed upon the family.

He has also thanked the African National Congress (ANC) for its role in the country and says their efforts will never be forgotten.

British actor Idris Elba is among the dignitaries attending the funeral of the former president, Nelson Mandela, in Qunu in the Eastern Cape, on Sunday.

Elba played the character of Mandela in the movie, Long Walk to Freedom, recently released about his life.

Funeral programme director, African National Congress deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa, said Elba had been nominated for an award for his portrayal of Mandela in the movie.

Talk-show host Oprah Winfrey and US actor Forest Whitaker are also among the dignitaries.

SPORTS: Manchester City 6 - 3 Arsenal FC

The 2011-12 champions went into the game six points adrift of Arsene Wenger's league leaders but moved within striking distance of the Londoners by claiming the spoils in an enthralling encounter.

Sergio Aguero opened the scoring for City, volleying home from a corner, only for the returning Theo Walcott to level midway through the first half.

Alvaro Negredo turned home Pablo Zabaleta's cross to put the hosts back in front and City looked to have made the game safe when Fernandinho scored his first goal for the club early in the second half.

England winger Walcott curled home a delightful second as Arsenal rallied, yet David Silva converted Jesus Navas's cross to make it 4-2 and Fernandinho struck again in the 88th minute.

An injury-time header from Per Mertesacker provided little consolation for the visitors, particularly as there was still time for Yaya Toure to add City's sixth from the penalty spot.

Walcott made his first start since September for Arsenal, while City manager Pellegrini once again preferred Costel Pantilimon to Joe Hart in goal.

The hosts started the stronger and were rewarded after 13 minutes when Aguero met Martin Demichelis's near-post flick-on from a corner with an acrobatic volley that flew past Wojciech Szczesny.

City's advantage was almost doubled seven minutes later when Negredo shot wide from Vincent Kompany's through-ball.

Despite offering little in response, Arsenal equalised after 31 minutes when Walcott finished a flowing move with a shot from the edge of the area that left Pantilimon flat-footed.

Negredo wasted a gilt-edged chance soon after but the Spain striker atoned for that miss when scoring from point-blank range in the 39th minute following good work from Toure and Zabaleta. To make matters worse for Arsenal, Laurent Koscielny sustained an injury as the Spaniard found the net and the defender was forced off, to be replaced by Thomas Vermaelen.

Aguero was also withdrawn through injury after the break but City grabbed a third when Fernandinho capitalised on sloppy Arsenal defending with a curled finish.

Wenger's men produced a determined response, Olivier Giroud heading wide before a penalty appeal for handball against Zabaleta went unanswered.

Walcott's exquisite second provided genuine hope for Arsenal but City were not to be denied and soon restored their two-goal advantage through Silva.

Wilshere forced Pantilimon into a fine save with a shot from distance but the midfielder was at fault for City's fifth as he conceded possession to allow Fernandinho to score his second.

That goal came with two minutes remaining, yet there was still time for Mertesacker to pull one back and Toure to finish from 12 yards after James Milner had been brought down by Szczesny.
