NEWS: Arsenal Land Kallstrom In Loan Deal

Arsenal signed Sweden midfielder Kim Kallstrom on loan until the end of the season from Russian club Spartak Moscow on transfer deadline day.

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger moved for Kallstrom on Friday as he looked to add depth to a midfield hit by injuries to Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere and Mathieu Flamini's suspension.

The 31-year-old, who has also played for BK Hacken, Djurgardens and Rennes, has a wealth of experience at the highest level after starring at French club Lyon.

Kallstrom made over 200 appearances for Lyon, winning the Ligue 1 title twice and helping the club reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals in 2009/10.

He has also won 108 caps for Sweden and appeared at UEFA EURO in 2004, 2008 and 2012, as well as the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™.

Wenger believes Kallstrom's impressive pedigree will make him a valuable addition as the Gunners, currently second in the English Premier League, look to end their long trophy drought.

"Kim Kallstrom is a hugely-experienced player," Wenger told Arsenal's official website. "He is a midfielder with proven quality at both club and international level. We welcome Kim to Arsenal."

Although Kallstrom has appeared for Spartak Moscow in this season's Europa League at the play-off stage, when they were eliminated by Swiss club St Gallen, Arsenal say he will be eligible for the Gunners for the remainder of this season's Champions League campaign.

With a potentially thrilling end to the season in prospect, Kallstrom is determined to help Arsenal finally win silverware after an nine-year drought.

"Arsenal is an amazing club with a lot of great players and a coach who has done really well here for a long time," Kallstrom said.

"I am so pleased to come here to learn as much as possible. I'm here to do my best for Arsenal and to help out the team, so we can achieve good results for the last part of the season."

NEWS: Aguero Set To Miss Month For City

Manchester City's leading scorer Sergio Aguero is likely to be sidelined for around a month due to a hamstring injury, manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed.

The Argentina international, who recently missed eight matches with a calf problem, was forced off in the first half of City's 5-1 victory at Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League on Wednesday. "The doctor is seeing him - maybe one month, but we are not sure absolutely," Pellegrini told reporters.

The injury to Aguero, who has scored 26 goals this season, arrives at an unwelcome juncture in City's campaign, with the 2012 English champions having just taken over from Arsenal at the top of the league table.

He stands to miss the first leg of City's UEFA Champions League last 16 tie with Barcelona, as well as key league and FA Cup games against Chelsea. However, with City having already amassed 115 goals in all competitions this season, Pellegrini believes that his team can cope with Aguero's absence.

"It is very difficult. Sergio is a top player for us, but I think we can replace him," said the Chilean. "As with the other injury, we hope we can continue to do it. But, of course, he is a very important player for us. Sergio is just coming back from an injury -- one month that he couldn't play. All the other strikers - Alvaro Negredo, Edin Dzeko and now Stevan Jovetic - replace him."

SPORTS: Cardiff Seal Zaha Loan Deal

Cardiff have completed their sixth January signing, bringing in Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha on loan for the rest of the season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had already boosted his squad with the addition of Fabio, Kenwyne Jones, Magnus Wolff Eikrem, Mats Moller Daehli and Jo Inge Berget since succeeding Malky Mackay as Bluebirds boss.

Zaha, 21, is the most high profile of his acquisitions, although it has taken longer to conclude the deal than had been expected. Solskjaer said: "That signing should be done by now. His name is on the paperwork. He is a Cardiff player.

"He has pace, power, technical ability and goes past people. He will give us that extra change of tempo in the final third, where we really need it. He will bring that little final bit to find pockets of space and produce a bit of magic."

But the Norwegian does not believe Zaha has anything to prove, despite his limited opportunities since moving to Old Trafford from Crystal Palace. "I don't think he has something to prove, he wants to play," said the former Red Devils striker.

"He has pace, power, technical ability and goes past people. He will give us that extra change of tempo in the final third." - Ole Gunner Solskjaer on Wilfried Zaha

"He played a few games at United, but maybe not what he hoped for when he went there. He wants to play, to play with confidence and keep Cardiff in the Premier League."

Solskjaer also confirmed striker Andreas Cornelius, signed for £8million by Mackay last summer, is in talks over a return to FC Copenhagen. He said: "Andreas is speaking to Copenhagen, it is not 100 per cent done yet. We will confirm when it happens.

"He has had a hard time, he came here with big potential, he is a young kid and young kids are not the ones you expect to carry a team. He is a young man who will play lot of good football in his career."

Solskjaer had previously stated the signing of Zaha would be his last of the transfer window. But while remaining coy on a move for Lazio defender Michael Ciani, Solskjaer acknowledged he could yet do more business.

"The phone is always ringing and you have got to be polite as you never know what may be possible, although we are probably done with signings. There may be players going out, there are a few things that need to be concluded today."

Of Ciani he added: "I can't tell you who I have looked at as it's a very big list with the preferred options I looked at, although some haven't gone through. But I cannot confirm or deny that one out of respect to the player and the club."

NEWS: Kendrick Lamar Reacts To Grammy Snub

The world was all a twitter when Kendrick Lamar wasn’t awarded Best Rap Album at the Grammy awards on Sunday night. Even the winner of the night, Macklemore, was in disbelief over Lamar’s snub. Since Sunday night, we haven’t heard much from Lamar’s end, even though we have heard plenty from Macklemore.

Lamar has finally broken his silence after being robbed by the Grammys for his fantastic hip hop album Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City. Lamar spoke with XXL, after his smashing performance with Imagine Dragons, about his loss.

“It’s well deserved; he did what he did, man. He went out there and hustled and grinded. Everything happens for a reason; the universe comes back around, that’s how it go.”

Macklemore was in such shock that he won Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best New Artist, that he texted Kendrick Lamar and shared it with his followers so that they could see that he agreed with the backlash as well.

“You got robbed. I wanted you to win. You should have. It’s weird and sucks that I robbed you.”

Of the lack of diversity in the Grammys, Kendrick Lamar said that he feels that hip hop needs to be represented more in the different categories.

“I definitely feel like they should always have more of the culture up in there, for sure, because we definitely stand out just like any other genre.”

Kendrick continued:

“We part of the world. We part of the movement. So I think any awards, including the Grammys, should always push for more hip-hop because it’s music as a whole, it’s not just splitting different regions. Everything moves as far as sound and vibrations, and that’s how it goes. And we are a part of that.”

As for Macklemore, not only is he feeling the backlash for snagging his Grammy wins, but he’s also getting criticism about his homophobic tweets that date back to 2009.

The rapper received huge attention for penning a pro-LGBT song called “Same Love.” The song, which was performed as gay and straight couples wed at the Grammys, is all about the issues same-sex couples face and the daily adversity they have to deal with despite living in a free country. More news to come if Macklemore comments on his 2009 tweets.

How Spotify Made Lorde A Pop Superstar

This is quite old, but I need to share it with y'all...after all, she's been in the news after winning her first grammy!

Before New Zealand pop-star Lorde was on every radio station in the U.S. and topping the Billboard Hot 100 list, she was featured on Sean Parker’s Spotify playlist–Hipster International.

The Napster co-founder, former Facebook president, billionaire and early Spotify backer also runs one of the most influential playlists on the Spotify platform with 814,000 subscribers.

“I feel like in many ways she’s the antidote to disposable pop music,” Parker tells me. “I feel like it was accessible to the same people who listen to Katy Perry, for instance, but there’s obviously something more authentic and personal to Lorde’s music. I got the sense she represents the return to a singer-songwriter approach to songwriting, and yet she has a knack for writing incredibly infectious melodies.”

On April 2nd, Parker added Lorde’s single “Royals” to Hipster International, a move that would help propel the then unknown sixteen-year-old to international stardom. “The moment Lorde’s “Royals” was added to Sean Parker’s popular Hipster International playlist on Spotify, we saw an immediate reaction around the world,” Jason Flom, the head of Lava Records, who signed Lorde this spring, said in an email. “Six days later, “Royals” debuted on the Spotify Viral Chart. The plays just kept growing as word of the track spread across their network…It was the first spark that lit the blaze of attention and activity that culminated in Lorde’s incredible album debut.”

Lorde continued to jump on Spotify’s Viral Chart, cozying up with superstars like Katy Perry, Drake and Lady Gaga. Steve Savoca, the head of content at Spotify, took notice quickly. “It translated into this social phenomenon,” says Savoca, who previously worked in digital marketing and business development for music labels like Sony and Warner. “The users felt they discovered something really exciting and they wanted to express it. They shared the track with friends on Spotify, Facebook and Twitter… it spread like wildfire.”

Savoca and his Spotify team began promoting Lorde throughout the platform and featured her on the Spotify homepage. By May Lorde was already number one on Spotify’s Viral Chart–it wasn’t until June that traditional radio began to play “Royals.” Fast forward to today, Lorde’s music has been streamed 100 million times on Spotify (not to mention 92 million views just for “Royals” on Youtube) and is number one on the Billboard Hot 100, beating out the likes of Eminem and Miley Cyrus. The foundation help Lorde’s first album “Pure Heroine” debut on Spotify at number one this fall with more than six-million plays in its first week.

It’s a big win for Lorde, and for Spotify. Founder Daniel Ek, the most important man in music today, started the music platform seven years ago believing that Spotify’s huge on-demand catalog combined with big data and social sharing could offer users (and artists) something better than piracy. Lorde’s success demonstrates the power of those features. And in a time when artists like the Black Keys and Radiohead gripe that Spotify’s royalty payment system is unfair to artists, the Lorde experience shows that through Spotify’s platform an unknown New Zealand teenager can sometimes compete with the likes of Lady Gaga in the fame game.

Just as Google seeks eyeballs, Spotify is hunting for eardrums. As more people listen and listen longer, Ek’s platform grows stronger—he can get higher rates from advertisers, convert more users to paid subscriptions and continue to make Spotify a service the music labels can’t ignore. The more Lordes Spotify can break, the more attractive the service becomes, for both users and artists.

“It’s completely democratic, if [users] like it, they will share it and listen more and more people will discover it,” says Savoca. “We’re brokering relationships here, and when these relationships catch lightning in a bottle like the case of Lorde, it’s our job to read that data and to chase those opportunities and make sure we’re introducing exciting new artists to our users.”

As new acts surge on Spotify, Savoca’s team will throw marketing muscle behind them–highlighting artists on the homepage, booking them for Spotify gigs, shooting interviews, and placing them in trending playlists and new campaigns like Spotlight that highlight up-and-coming talent.  The bet is that hosting fresh music and new artists will make Spotify the platform where users, labels and artists want to be.

“What’s interesting is how many new artists get to have the same platform as anyone else,” says Savoca. “Look at the Billboard charts–you have these superstar super brands mixed with artists no one ever heard of three-months ago and it seems to be happening more frequently. It’s exciting because people are discovering new and interesting music again, it’s not about just cloning the top forty radio to ensure you get on air—it’s about making the music you want to make.”

NEWS: Americans Signs Petition To Deport Justin Bieber

A petition asking that Justin Bieber be deported is about to be reviewed by the White House.

After receiving more than 100,000 signatures, the government is now obligated to respond to the petition titled, "Deport Justin Bieber and revoke his green card."

The petition to the Obama Administration states, "We the people of the United States feel that we are being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture. We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug abusing, Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked."

It adds, "He is not only threatening the safety of our people but he is also a terrible influence on our nations youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society."

As of Wednesday, Jan 29, over 113,000 signatures had been given.

The "We the People" petition was created on Jan. 23, the same day that the Canadian pop star was arrested for alleged DUI in Miami.

The White House reviews and generally responds to petitions that receive more than 100,000 signatures within a month.

In the past, petitions have included naming Miley Cyrus "Party in the USA" or R. Kelly's "Ignition" as the new national anthem and having a "Death Star" created to increase jobs.

We can't wait to see what their official response is.

Meanwhile, Bieber's egg-gate ordeal isn't officially over and done with.

According to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. David Thompson, the case is still ongoing.

The District Attorney has asked authorities to further investigate the incident and they have yet to decide whether or not they will get a judge to issue a search warrant to access the singer's phone.

Suffice to say, it's not a great time to be the Biebs.

Nigeria 0-0 (1-4 PSO) Ghana: Unlucky Eagles bow to Black Stars

The Black Stars progressed to the African Nations Championship final as they converted all their spot kicks after a tight encounter with the Super Eagles in Bloemfontein

Ten-man Ghana booked a date with Libya in the African Nations Championship with a 4-1 penalty shoot-out victory over Nigeria at the Bloemfontein Stadium after regulation time ended 0-0.

The much anticipated clash between the West African rivals began on a very competitive note with the Black Stars going for the attack right from the blast of Referee Sikazwe’s whistle.

Ghana launched the first real threat as Seidu Bansey eased past two Nigerian defenders to hit his shot at Chigozie Agbim’s goal but his effort went just wide.

In the fourth minute, the stadium was thrown into confusion as Nigeria’s stand-out man in the competition Ejike Uzoenyi went unconscious after a collision with a Ghanaian defender in an attempt to win an aerial ball.

The Black Stars were in cruise control for more than 15 minutes of the first half but rarely threatened the Nigerian goalkeeper thanks to a more composed defence anchored by Kunle Odunlami.

The Super Eagles' first chance to score came in the 10th minute when Abubakar Ibrahim almost converted a free kick taken following Yahaya Mohammed’s foul on Abdullahi Shehu.

Few minutes later - in the 26th minute to be precise - Nigeria very nearly went ahead through Abdulahi as his long range missile bounced off the Ghanaian cross bar – a result of a counter-attacking move orchestrated by Ugonna Uzochukwu after the Black Stars’ corner was cleared away by Azubuike Egwuekwe.

Ghana looked weighed down by the almost tangible sense of expectancy among a partisan crowd packed into the Blomfontein Stadium as dangerman Uzoenyi mesmerized Michael Akuffo's anchored backline.

On resumption of the second half, Nigeria looked more dangerous in attack but failed to convert chances that came their way as they wide of Stephen Adams’s goal.

Maxwell Konadu’s men were reduced to 10 in the 64thminute as Kwabena Adusei got his second caution of the night following a rough challenge on Nigeria’s Abubakar.

Keshi brought on Barnabas Imenger for Ifeanyi Ede who had a below par performance to take advantage of the opponent’s deficit but the Black Stars looked rock-solid as they thwarted every attacking moves of the Eagles.

With both sides horribly devoid of ideas, extra time appeared inevitable. Imenger was the culprit in the first half of extra time as he failed on three occasions to put Nigeria ahead.

With five minutes left to play Imenger was denied an absolutely magnificent winner when a close–range header was turned out by the Ghana keeper. The Black Stars keeper was forced to make another save from Uzoenyi a minute later to ensure the game went to penalties.

The Black Stars kept their nerves to score four of their spot kicks while Nigeria were only able to convert one.

Ghana will meet Libya in Saturday's final game as Nigeria will make do with a third place match against Zimbabwe.

NEWS: Mata Completes Record Man United Move

Spanish attacking midfielder Juan Mata completed his record £37.1m transfer from Chelsea to Manchester United after completing a medical at the English champions.

United had already confirmed on Friday that they had agreed a deal to sign the 25-year-old for a club-record fee.

"Today is a very happy day... It's a massive club and I feel very proud to be here," Mata told manutd.com.

"I am thrilled to be joining. United is the perfect place for me."

United manager David Moyes described Mata as "one of the finest playmakers in the game".

"It's a real pleasure to have secured his signature," Moyes said.

The deal eclipsed the £30.75m that United paid Tottenham Hotspur in 2008 to sign Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov.

Mata joined Chelsea from Valencia in 2011 and was voted the club's player of the year in his first two seasons, but he has fallen out of favour since Jose Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge as manager last year.

Mata is expected to go straight into the squad for United's home game against Cardiff City in the league on Tuesday.

His signing reflects Moyes's eagerness to arrest a startling decline in United's fortunes since he succeeded fellow-Scot Alex Ferguson as manager at the end of last season.

United are currently 14 points behind leaders Arsenal in the Premier League and have been knocked out of both the FA Cup and the League Cup this month, although they have reached the last 16 in the UEFA Champions League.

United striker Robin van Persie welcomed Mata's arrival, writing on Twitter: "Welcome Juan Mata see you all tuesday."

Centre-back Rio Ferdinand tweeted: "Welcome to my amigo @juanmata10! Hoping you enjoy ya time here and help continue the success at this club."

Mata will join countryman David de Gea at Old Trafford and the United goalkeeper gave his fellow Spaniard a playful welcome, tweeting: "Welcome to my brother @juanmata10 just one thing....Not the best clothes!"

Meanwhile, reports in the British media on Saturday claimed that United have opened talks with striker Wayne Rooney over a new contract.

The 28-year-old England striker has 18 months remaining on his current deal and was the subject of two unsuccessful bids from Chelsea during the close season.
