Omoni Oboli Denies Rift With Genevieve

In a recent visit to the corporate office of iCampus Newspaper, Omoni opened up....

"I can't place my fingers on when the supposed "beef" started but one thing I know is that, there is no problem between Genevieve and I . We did not have any issue or problem whatsoever. We are not enemies, neither are we friends. We are colleagues, a senior one at that, we greet each other when we see; it is not like we visit each other at home."

Speaking on the real cause of the rumoured animosity, Omoni who recently became a director and producer said;
"I acted a movie, Anchor Baby, the director (Lonzo Nzekwe) of the movie granted an interview and said Omoni Oboli is the best actress in Nigeria. Some bloggers lashed on it and said Omoni Oboli is better than Genevieve and Omotola. The next thing was that people started writing about a supposed ‘beef ‘with her. I cannot get the reason they didn’t write about beef with Omotola. In my opinion, someone somewhere was just being mischievous. I have absolutely no problem with her, and I believe she has no problem with me."

EPL Result: Newcastle United 0 - 2 Manchester City

Manchester City have kicked off their Premier League title defence with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United courtesy of goals in either half from David Silva and Sergio Aguero.

Edin Dzeko nearly put the visitors ahead with less than three minutes on the clock, but Tim Krul denied the Bosnian striker after he was picked out with a ball over the top.

Neither side could create any real openings, although Newcastle were beginning to force their opponents into making a few errors as the half progressed at St James' Park.

Seven minutes before the interval City did strike against the run of play, though, and it was David Silva who made the breakthrough with a drilled finish past Krul following a flicked pass from Dzeko into his path.

There was an early scare for the Citizens in the second half as they struggled to deal with a corner whipped into the box, but the danger was soon cleared with their lead still intact.

Stevan Jovetic came close to adding a second for his side on 55 minutes when he struck the ball from 25-yards out, only to see his attempt fly wide of the target.

Another chance soon followed for City, this time for Dzeko who headed over from close range, while Yaya Toure's free kick sailed inches over the bar.

The missed opportunities almost proved costly when Ayoze Perez broke free from the opposition defence before getting a shot away at goal which was deflected narrowly wide.

Substitute Sergio Aguero made sure of the points in added time, however, with his finish from close range when he pounced on a rebound ahead of Fabricio Coloccini.

EPL Result: Liverpool 2 - 1 Southampton

Daniel Sturridge scored 10 minutes from time to hand Liverpool a 2-1 win over Southampton at Anfield this afternoon.

Liverpool's first sight of goal arrived after seven minutes following a swift counter from the home side, but Sturridge could only fire his effort high and wide of Fraser Forster's crossbar. Moments later, Forster was forced to deny Lucas from close range after the Brazilian had met a near-post corner.

Raheem Sterling was next to come close after 20 minutes, but his effort was straight at the Saints goalkeeper.

Sterling made no mistake after 23 minutes, however, converting past Forster following a through pass from Jordan Henderson.

Southampton's first real chance of the half came after 35 minutes, but Simon Mignolet managed to palm a sweeping free kick from James Ward-Prowse over the crossbar.

Morgan Schneiderlin also threatened for the away side in first-half stoppage time, but his effort was also pushed over the crossbar by Mignolet.

The away side made the brighter start to the second period, but struggled to create clear openings, while Sterling remained a threat for Liverpool and flashed an effort high of the crossbar after 54 minutes.

Southampton were level after 56 minutes, however, when Nathaniel Clyne placed one into the top corner from inside the box.

Steven Davis came close to sending the away side ahead just before the hour mark, but sent one high of the crossbar after Mignolet had flapped at another cross from Ward-Prowse.

Davis had another wonderful chance three minutes later, but sent his effort straight at Mignolet from close range.

Liverpool struggled for clear openings as the second period advanced, with Henderson firing one wide of the post before Rickie Lambert entered for his Premier League debut against his former side.

The home side rallied in the latter stages, however, and won it 10 minutes from time when Sturridge tapped home from close range following a header from Sterling.

Southampton had two glorious chances late on, but Schneiderlin hit the crossbar from close range before Shane Long headed the rebound wide of the post.

EPL Preview: Liverpool vs. Southampton

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will be without two of his summer signings when they play Southampton in their opening game of the Premier League season.

Both Adam Lallana, who left the Saints to move to Anfield, and Lazar Markovic are sidelined through injury, with Daniel Agger and Jon Flanagan also missing for the Merseyside outfit.

Rickie Lambert, who has also joined from Southampton, is expected to be on the substitutes' bench for the match with his former club.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has been forced to rebuild Southampton's squad after more than half-a-dozen players departed during the summer.

New arrivals Fraser Forster, Ryan Bertrand, Dusan Tadic and Shane Long could all make their first appearances for their new side but Morgan Schneiderlin is likely to miss out as he continues to express his desire to leave the club.

The Saints were victorious in this fixture last season but goalscorer Dejan Lovren will be in the opposing lineup on this occasion.

Liverpool: Mignolet; Johnson, Skrtel, Lovren, Enrique, Can, Henderson, Gerrard; Sterling, Coutinho, Sturridge

Southampton: Forster; Clyne, Gardos, Fonte, Bertrand; Wanyama, Ward-Prowse, Taider; Tadic, Long, Pelle

EPL Preview: Newcastle United vs. Manchester City

Newcastle United will line up against Premier League champions Manchester City without five of their first-team squad.

New signing Siem de Jong will be absent, as will Cheick Tiote and Davide Santon, while long-term injury victims Papiss Cisse and Ryan Taylor are still a significant amount of time away from a return to action.

However, Magpies boss Alan Pardew is expected to hand debuts to Daryl Janmaat, Jack Colback, Remy Cabella and Emmanuel Riviere.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini faces similar selection issues as he prepares his team for the visit to St James' Park.

Eight players were missing as City slumped to a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield, and while a number of the absentees will return, Alvaro Negredo, Eliaquim Mangala, and potentially Sergio Aguero, will miss out.

Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko, who have been in fine form during pre-season, are expected to lead the line in the North-East.

EPL Result: Arsenal 2 - 1 Crystal Palace

Aaron Ramsey struck a stoppage-time winner as Arsenal came from behind to beat 10-man Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium this evening.

The Welshman pounced in the 91st minute to down a spirited Palace side and seal the club's first opening-day victory in the Premier League for five years.

Tony Pulis's resignation dominated the build-up to the encounter, but the Eagles produced a disciplined performance under interim boss Keith Millen and made the Gunners work hard to fashion an opening.

It took the best part of half-an-hour for Arsenal to get a glimpse at goal, as Jack Wilshere's left-footed effort was tipped past the post by Julian Speroni.

Arsenal struggled to build on that opportunity and Millen's side went ahead with 10 minutes remaining in the half, as Brede Hangeland rose highest to plant a header past Wojciech Szczesny.

Falling behind only serverd to spark the hosts into life, as Santi Cazorla flashed a deflected effort wide, before Laurent Koscielny headed an Alexis Sanchez free kick past Speroni on 46 minutes.

The North Londoners faced similar woes in the second half as the Palace defence successfully repelled everything that they came their way, with Sanchez and Ramsey reduced to tame shots from range.

Second-half substitute Olivier Giroud flashed an effort across the face of goal on 82 minutes, but nobody in red was on hand to convert the cross-come shot.

The hosts were given extra incentive in their quest for the three points after Jason Puncheon was sent off for a second yellow card.

Ramsey made them pay, tapping home a Mathieu Debuchy rebound from close range to seal his side's first victory on the opening day of the season since 2009.

EPL Result: West Ham 0 - 1 Tottenham Hotspur

Defender Eric Dier's composed finish in injury time condemned West Ham United to a Premier League opening-day defeat as Tottenham Hotspur won 1-0 at Upton Park.

The home side set out to give their opponents little space in the opening stages of the game, and nearly caught out goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in the first few minutes when Carlton Cole pressed down on goal.

On the half-hour mark, there was drama as Kyle Naughton was judged to have deliberately struck the ball with his hands in the Spurs box.

The 25-year-old was sent off, and Mark Noble stepped up to take the ensuing penalty, but his effort from 12 yards flew wide.

Nevertheless, West Ham were able to find their way back into the game towards the latter stages, as Ricardo Vaz Te fired just wide following a dangerous cross.

In the 53rd, Lloris had to be at his sharpest, pulling off a double save from the Hammers front line.

The home side found themselves a man down just a few minutes later when James Collins clashed with Emmanuel Adebayor and earned himself his second yellow of the game.

With both sides down to ten men, Christian Eriksen fired a dangerous shot from the resulting set piece, which just swerved over the bar.

In the 70th minute, Andros Townsend struck two quick chances in succession, both of which were thwarted by Adrian.

With Spurs on the ascendency, the Hammers found themselves with their backs to the wall for the remainder of the half, although Noble troubled Lloris after a surge from midfield.

Just as it seemed that the game would end all square, Dier, thrown upfield in an ambitious attempt to cause havoc in the Hammers box, raced onto a through-ball, rounded the keeper and slotted into the unguarded net to break the home crowd's hearts.

EPL Result: West Brom 2 - 2 Sunderland

West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland have played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in today's Premier League opener at the Hawthorns.

After just five minutes played, Jonas Olsson attempted to clear a dangerous Sunderland foray into the Baggies box, but the ball fell to Lee Cattermole, who rifled into the top corner from 25 yards for just his second goal in a Black Cats shirt.

Rather than breathe life into the game, proceedings slowed down after the goal and was devoid of much action until the 23rd minute, when Saido Berahino struck wide after receiving the ball inside the box.

The game did however open up midway through the first half, and chances fell to players from both sides, Valentin Roberge heading wide from close range on the half-hour mark.

Chris Brunt and Craig Gardner then came close for the Baggies, before a penalty was awarded to the home side courtesy of Roberge's tussle with Victor Anichebe, Berahino making no mistake from 12 yards to put his side back into the game.

The 21-year-old struck again in the 73rd minute after converting a deep Gardner cross at the far post, the Burundian getting the better of Patrick van Aanholt and tapping the ball into the net.

The beleaguered Dutch left-back, however, made amends when his low cross fell perfectly to Sebastian Larsson, who had a simple finish to make it 2-2 with just five minutes left to play.
